In Definition of: Misinterpretation

Misinterpretationa disaster in progress. 1. A result of not listening, not caring, not paying attention, or not having the energy to get it right, which, in some circles, is also called “laziness”; 2. May be used as a tool for a) manipulation for the gain of power, b) avoiding reality for the gain of an alternate hallucinogenic and sometimes hyper-spiritual reality, c) an excuse for the gain of anything needing excusing, or d) an obnoxious reason to be a power hungry magic mushroom eating blame-shifter, which, in some circles, is also called “all of the above”; 3. A thief of the author’s right and authority to interpretation, which, in some circles, is also called “stealing”; 4. A major contributing cause to the writing of the majority of the New Testament, which, in some circles, is also called “the inspired word of God”; 5. A description of lazy all of the above inspired word of God thieves, which, in some circles, is called “false teacher” and “cult leader”.

I loved listening to Mark Hawkes on all this. Mainly because of how he put it- which wa somewhere along the lines of, "If you read the bible and take it out of context, you are stupid." I think the reason why I loved Hermeneutics so much was because of the way Mark presented it.

Anyway, looking at all the different aspects to misinterpretation and what it has lead to- not including blatant lies about what is being said (ex. mormon/j.w's)- people even in the Christian church fall prey to such a thing because people do not take the time to study. Making me want to use all the more caution when I'm just reading the bible in my own time!

Man your blog is good. It's like I'm reading it with my Bible and morning coffee 3 days a week now.

This "in definition" series needs to be published somewhere.

Anyways...wasn't there some misinterpretation going on a few days ago in one of your posts? Some misquotes or something like that? Strange...

Dude don't worry about it...there were very thick hints of sarcasm in that last post which doesn't really come through that well through a post...I'm tired and insensitive today...so if I offended you...I apologize.

ahhhh....doesn't that feel better everyone?! Now, take a deep breath and stretch your arms over your head. And one and two and three and four. Ready. Now let's stretch those fingers boys b/c it is time to get back to the topic at hand.......

The dark and sinister masked evils of misinterpretation and our response to it.

Thoughts?

When I misinterpret people, I'm wanting to make myself look better than the person I'm misinterpreting. It's all about power. If I can mess someone else over, I win. Obviously I'm being a little fecicious(sp?). But in all reality, I don't think I'm far off. Maybe I'm just a power-hungry-magic-mushroom-eathing-blame-shifter.

I came out of the womb with punk tatooed on my knukles!

Builder > do you really think looking for a scapegoat to place blame on is the right question or course of action?

Hey Jer,

Regarding "Emerging Churches", I don't own it but plan to buy it soon. I've heard some great quotes from it. We are speaking at Conference on the Ministry and plan to use "Emerging Churches" as an inspiration for what we'll talk about.

Take a look up the comments...

At one point you ask the question, "So where does the blame lie?"

I'm just wondering if that is really the best question to be asking...?
