Thanks for reading and commenting. Bl...Ranger Duke,
Thanks for reading and commenting. Blogging is mostly alot of people saying alot about nothing that nobody reads.....!

Anyhow, as I read 1:28 I see it as very connected to the immediate preceding section on "image", specifically that man is made in the image of God and explained to us within the context God's creating process.

Human creativity, then, expresses something of the nature of God and man. As on commentator puts it, "In the light of all that we have said about God's image, it is even clearer now that 'dominion' cannot mean exploitation, but must be seen in the sort of facilitating servanthood which maintains an environment in which persons who reflect something of God's nature of love and creativity can be at home. Genesis 1 will soon lead us into Genesis 2, where the meaning of humankind's relationship both with God and with the rest of the created order is spelled out in more intimate details." (Motyer).

Duke, as this was originally a newspaper article I wrote, I wrote more of my conclusions than a systemic linking of 1:28 and 2:15 and of all the theology behind it.

Additionally, my understanding of the fall in Genesis 3 shows of four broken relationships that result due to sin. The relationship between:
1. God and man (theological/spiritual)
2. man and others (relational)
3. man and himself (psychological, emotional)
4. man and the environment

As Christians, we trust and thank Jesus that He ultimately will restore and is restoring all of these broken relationships. Yet, as faithful Christians, we also work towards the reconciling of these relationships as God's spirit is at work within us conforming us to the restored image that we once were.

Regardless of any theological assumptions that I might make, raping, exploiting, and pillaging God's creation is not an effective witness and is counter-active to the gospel at work within our communities that are becoming increasingly green.

As an interesting side note, what do you make of God's assertion in Genesis 1:31 of "very good" when observing His work? Do you think we should respond with a similar attitude? How should we respond to something very good?

Anyhow, my two bits. Thanks for making me do some thinking on the weekend! :)
-Jerjeremy postalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15271169712938295663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17280599.post-18969217105445756722009-11-06T16:51:49.628-08:002009-11-06T16:51:49.628-08:00Jeremy, I'm interested in your assertion that ...Jeremy, I'm interested in your assertion that the first commission is to care for and tend the Earth. The ESV says
"Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

Exponential population growth is often cited as the root cause of environmental (and other) problems in the world. Subduing and having dominion over don't carry the same connotations as tending and caring for, in my vocabulary at least.

I'd be really interested to know what basis you have for representing this commission as one of caring for the creation in the way you imply.Adam Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03887179943449812677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17280599.post-80780330810075630942009-10-31T15:03:10.858-07:002009-10-31T15:03:10.858-07:00Ironically, engaging with our neighbors may teach ...Ironically, engaging with our neighbors may teach us more about our own lives and faith then we could have ever imagined.Jeffreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16622226544784106760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17280599.post-71266725798468021982009-10-30T11:08:31.240-07:002009-10-30T11:08:31.240-07:00Great quote and awesome photo dude.Great quote and awesome photo dude.Jeffreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16622226544784106760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17280599.post-60128385716686881082009-10-19T10:49:46.232-07:002009-10-19T10:49:46.232-07:00Good point Jer.

The thought about perception of self and product is a very good one. I do think however that the statement is a bit of a stretch. The pursuit of quality and the search for value are two spectrums that exist in any business and at odds with each other many times. However, a holistic view of business [church] means that we embrace both and pursue each with the same intensity. Could it be that there has been such a lack of 'pseudo-therapy' that the pendulum has moved too far in that direction? Will it move towards a value driven approach?
I think the other element is that there is so much competition that many businesses will roll whatever the market is smokin in order to keep their sales numbers up. This again has two edges to it. The need to move with the market but also the need to be true to your strategic plan. Businesses [churchs] that move to and fro too much end up spreading themselves to thin and do not create sustainability. A few more questions:
1) Can a business [church] that stays itself in just value last?
2) Can a business [church] that stays itself on just consumer value sustain itself?Markimushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11657285985843078423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17280599.post-72933841472959512272008-11-12T01:22:00.000-08:002008-11-12T01:22:00.000-08:00hey jeremy, send me an email, speaktoaaron2hotmail...hey jeremy, send me an email, speaktoaaron2hotmail.com or speaktoaaron@gmail.comlyallstylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07484810263920666448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17280599.post-1821608103197539772008-11-12T01:21:00.000-08:002008-11-12T01:21:00.000-08:00ok ok here we go.ok ok here we go.lyallstylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07484810263920666448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17280599.post-13424349110631656412008-11-12T01:19:00.000-08:002008-11-12T01:19:00.000-08:00hey jeremy. its aaron von lyallstyle. what is your...hey jeremy. its aaron von lyallstyle. what is your email addy? mine is either speaktoaaron@hotmail or gmail.comlyallstylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01423750832448238905noreply@blogger.com
